Twitter just rolled out a new feature that allows users to send payments in Bitcoin (BTC).
The social media giant says the new “Tips” option enables Twitter users to send funds to virtually anyone on the platform.
The feature is powered by Strike, an app that processes BTC transactions via the Lightning Network, enabling free and instant payments worldwide.
People in El Salvador and the US, except those in Hawaii and New York, are eligible to use Strike to receive BTC.
“We want everyone on Twitter to have access to pathways to get paid.
Digital currencies that encourage more people to participate in the economy and help people send each other money across borders and with as little friction as possible – help us get there.”
Users can also add their Bitcoin address to their profile when they enable Tips. This will allow others to just copy and paste the address into any crypto wallet for sending payments directly.
Besides crypto, Tips also supports several other payment platforms. Users can link and receive funds through the following:
- Bandcamp
- Cash App
- Chipper
- Patreon
- Razorpay
- Wealthsimple Cash
- Venmo
- GoFundMe
- Picpay
Twitter says it is initially launching the feature on iOS and will roll out a version for Android over the coming weeks.
